MOVING FORWARD

MOVING FORWARD: BUILDING A GREAT CHURCH THROUGH EFFECTIVE FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP  1 Peter 4:10-11

The foundation of a great Church is embedded in the faithfulness of Christians stewardship.  Christian life is a life of stewardship.  It is a life given by Christ Jesus which requires and demands accountability.  It is also a life being built by Christ which gate of hell cannot prevail against it (Matt. 16:18).  Therefore the concept of stewardship is deeply rooted and fundamental to Christian life and living.  You must be a good manager of the entire life of Jesus Christ which you are carrying about on daily basis.  No Christian should arrogate the ownership of the life and gifts he has to himself.  He is a caretaker and manager and not the owner of self and all he has in Christ Jesus.

The understanding of Christian life as a steward will propel us to position the church on the path of greatness.  The church will attain full size of God’s greatness if Christians will invest Christ’s given life, talents, position, influence and resources to build her for God’s glory.  The size of God in the mind of church members will go a long way on how big and great the church of God will be in our time.  Our God is great in all things both in power, attributes, glory, love, mercy and in provision.

Building a great church requires a great service for the glory of God.  Church is the people who are redeemed and called out of darkness into the marvelous light of Christ Jesus.  They are the ones who are freed from the power of sin, self and Satan.  They are the people that have been baptized into the life of Christ and voluntarily surrendered themselves to the teachings and the following of Christ forever.

THE DEMAND FOR BUILDING A GREAT CHURCH IS COSTLY

(1)  It demands a total love.  Loving God with all your heart, loving God with all your mind, loving God

with all your might (Mark 12:30-31).

(2)  It demands our social and acquired skills.  Our position, influence, profession etc.

(3)  It demands our physical and spiritual gifts (Acts 2:42-47; Luke 3:2-14; 1Chro. 22:2-5; Romans

12:3-8)

(4)  It demands our faithfulness (Matthew 25:21,23).

–   Faithfulness is a major and core subject in the service and the Church of God.

–   In the school of faith, faithfulness is key in building a great Church

–   There is a great reward for being faithful in the use of your gifts and talents for God.

The Church of God will be spiritually, physically and materially great if we determine to be a faithful steward unto the Lordship of the Owner of the Church and our total being.

POWER OF PRAISE (II CHRONICLE 20:22)

POWER OF PRAISE (II CHRONICLE 20:22)

Our Lord is God of praise.  Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise says Jesus Christ (Ps 8:2, Matt. 21:15,16).  God enjoys praise so much that there is nothing He could not do for those who love to praise Him with holy hands.

God in the day of Jehoshaphat revealed and demonstrated what power is in the praise of His holy name.  When the battle became impossible for the army of Jehoshaphat to win and the fear of defeat was very overwhelming among them he contacted God for way out. (ll Chro 20:5-12).

The Holy Spirit of God gave solution to the titanic battle that brought perplexity to the children and army of Israel.  The Spirit of God encouraged them not to be afraid nor dismayed because of the battle facing them.  The Holy Spirit speaks further that they need not to fight the battle in a conventional way but go into the battle with singing and praising the Lord (II Chro. 20:14-20).

However, as they follow the instruction of the Holy Spirit and they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambush against the people of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, and they were defeated (II Chro. 20:22).

(1)    There is power in the Holy Spirit led praises.

(2)    The enemy of the people of God are always in problem when the anointed people of God lead

praises unto the Lord

(3)    God is always provoked against the enemy of His people when they sing praises with a pure heart.

(4)    The Holy Spirit led praises will make God to fight against the enemy and all the satanic operations

in the battle waged against the children of God.

(5)    God will make impossible possible.

(6)    God gives victory to His people

(7)    God usually wrought an unusual and unprecedented miracle among the children of God.

However, those who will enjoy the power of God in praise must be:

(a)    Born again.

(b)    Able to live a holy life

(c)    Able to be baptized in the Holy Spirit

(d)    Ready to praise God in faith.

(e)    Able to praise God with all his/her heart.

SHOWING THE FULL STRENGTH OF LOVE  (John 13: 1- 17)

The greatest core value of Jesus Christ in His ministry is LOVE. If we should weigh (though, lack capacity) the skills of our Saviour, the greatest of His skills is LOVE. His nature and character are epitomized in LOVE.  “……having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end” (Jn 13:1).  He demonstrated the full extent of His love to His disciples.  How much do we love ourselves?  How much do we love the Church – the body of Christ?  Our example for showing love is Jesus Christ.

Like Jesus Christ, His beginning is from God and His ending is to God (Jn 13:3), we should hold on to this fact we have come from God and are going to God hence we should love ourselves and the body of Christ (Church) to the fullest.

The fulness of Jesus Christ’s love are:

–  He creates time to eat together with His people.

–  He cares for everyone of the disciples.

–  He humbles Himself to wash their feet from all pollutions.

The fulness of Jesus’ love is unending, unconditional and unselfish in serving others.

How can we replicate that kind of love in our Church?

(1)  Let us have unconditional love for one another.  Love to serve selflessly.

(2)  Put other members of the Church ahead of ours.

(3)  Develop the confidence and security to take risks for one another in the Church.

(4)  Let us organize a feast of love for one another and all members together.

(5)  Let us look for the needs of one another and of the Church and take step to meet them.

(6)  Evaluate on our love for the mission of the Church with aim of improving them.

(7)  Learn to walk peacefully and humbly in the Church

(8)  Choose to perform small or great acts anonymously.

(9)  Learn to talk to promote good relationship in the Church of God.

(10) Love to make friends and create environment for friendship in the Church.

In conclusion, full strength of love is in making it a Seed.  Love is a heavenly sed that produces Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.  To be productive, fruitful and useful in the Church, choose to become a seed of love by accepting the full love of Christ into your life.  You shall be blessed if you obey Jesus Christ.

THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL AT A TIME LIKE THIS(Mark 16:15-20)
Does any believer believe a time like this can come when we first believed? Whether we believe or not, there shall always be a time to challenge the power of the gospel in our lives. However, what should be important to us who believe is that all power in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus for our confidence in the proclamation of the gospel (Matthew 28:18).
Gospel or Good News is power of God for the salvation of those who believe that Christ died for their sins and rose from the dead to give them eternal life (Romans 1:16). The power of the gospel is therefore the revelation of the righteousness of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Romans 1:17 says “The righteous shall live by faith”. Only our believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ can give us righteousness of God.
However, the time we are passing through is a threat to the potency of the gospel or. good news of the salvation of the people . We are in the time when wickedness of the people is highly alarming (Romans 1:29). Two, we are in the time of pestilence that do not know whether you are a believer or unbeliever.

What shall we do with the power of the gospel at this challenging time.
1. We must be stubborn to our faith in the power of the gospel (Romans 1:16). We must learn from Apostle Paul who was not ashamed to stand for the Gospel of Jesus Christ at any given time whether difficult or easy time. He sees himself as a deptor of the Gospel to all people. How is gospel of Jesus in our hands at a time like this.

 2.  We must stand boldly to preach the gispel at a time like this. This is not the time to engage in complaining about the sufferings the Church is passing through, but to use every available technology to preach for the salvation of the evil and wicked people of our time (Mark 16:15-16). Those who believe will be saved and those who refuse will be condemned.

 3.  We must stand to demonstrate the power of the gospel (Mark 16:17-20). There are demons in our time that do not hide their identities. There are dangerous and crafty people like snake who are ready to poison anybody without remedy. There are deadly pestilence like cancer. all sorts of fevers, and the latest and most dangerous of them is Corona virus. The believers have opportunity to demonstrate the power of the gospel over them now. Jesus said that we will speak new languages as the Holy Spirit will give us utterance of the power over all the satanic that afflict people of our time.
Brethren, let us be strong in our faith in resurrection power of Jesus and herald his second coming by preaching and demonstrating the power of the gospel in our time. The name of the Lord will not be put to shame in our time. Do not be afraid at this time but be strong in the Lord.
JESUS IS LORD
